Specific Objective 2.2 – Protection of nature and biodiversity, the project ALIENA – ALIgning Efforts to control Non-indigenous species in the Adriatic sea, aims to deepen common knowledge and create a joint monitoring system to improve biodiversity protection against non-indigenous species (NIS), which may pose a threat to local marine ecosystems, public health and also affect socio-economic activities.

To this end, some target NIS will be identified and specific monitoring activities will be designed on them using innovative techniques, according to shared protocols and combined with predictive modelling systems.
